MN extension Staff has been working out the final details to Begin 1-2 hour Conference Calls in January 2008. This will be a great opportunity to talk with other communities on tools and strategies.

The Steering Committee met with MN Extension Staff on Friday, December 14th.
We discussed the future plans that the Youth Involvement and Community Awareness Squads are identifying.
We also had a lengthy discussion as to the hosting a 1-day training for all Future Squads. In this day long event, Future Squad leaders and members would be able to get a better idea of the requirements and guidelines around their focuses. Also, the day-long session would allow for some group time to discuss the new knowledge and let the groups begin to identify strategies.
We are hoping to set up this Training in Mid-January 2008, stay tuned for more details….
The Youth involvement met tonight at the Chisholm Youth Center. Where we discussed a variety of things. First thing if kids don’t know about the Chisholm Youth Center it is located on main street next to the Senior Center. The hours and days are Mon., Thrus., Fri. and Sat. 5 p.m. - 10 p.m. Open for grades 7-12. If you haven’t checked it out yet please do. They have done a lot of work in there and it is a great place for kids.
Some of the things that were discussed tonight was getting a life skills class for all teenagers to learn about budgeting and managing money. Having a support system for kids: maybe a hot line they can call or some kind of place or person they can talk to about being/feeling different, loss in their life, being bullied or other problems facing or kids. Getting a book swap/store for kids to have affordable access to books, and getting a home work center or some kind of place for teens to get help or help each other with their home work.
The next meeting is schedules for Jan. 8th @ 5 p.m. @ the Chisholm Youth Center. If you are interested in being a part of creating a great place for our youth please call Marketa or Sadie Anderson @ 254-7628 or Gus Cronberg @ 254-2960.
The community awareness group met on Dec. 5th. The discussion was on how to get information out to the people who need it, and the names and or numbers for people to get help or information. The group is going to look into making a information booklet of names, number and other information. The next meeting is scheduled for Dec.
17th at the Range Center at 6:00 p.m. They will be discussing the information that was gathered and brain storming on other needs of our community. If you would like to join in on this exciting adventure you can call Suzy Fesnick at 254-5538 or Karen Amistadi at 969-1310.
